Hello, I'm Álvar Arnaiz González

PhD on Computer Science and
Computer engineer
by Burgos University

About Me

I received my M.S. degree in Computer Engineering in 2010, and the PhD in Computer Science in 2018 at the University of Burgos for a thesis entitled "Study of Instance Selection Methods".

I am currently an Associate Professor at the Department of Computer Science of the Burgos University. My main research interests include Machine Learning, Data Mining, ensemble classifiers and instance selection.

I am a member of the "Artificial Data Mining Research and Bioinformatics Learning" research group.

Work & Education

October 2021 - Present

Associate professor

Burgos University

Currently, I teach several subjects in one degree and one masters, more specifically in "Computer Engineering degree" and "Business Intelligence and Big Data in Cyber-Secure Environments master".

September 2018 - October 2021

Assistant professor

Burgos University

I was assistant professor during three years, teaching in the "Computer Engineering degree", "Business Intelligence and Big Data in Cyber-Secure Environments master" and "Computer Engineering master".

February 2018 - August 2018

September 2011 - September 2012

Adjunct professor

Burgos University

I was adjunt professor during two academic years. In that time, I gave lectures of the following subjects: "Programming", "Software engineering", and "Basic computer theory".

October 2014 - January 2018

Teaching assistant

Burgos University

The main aim of a teaching assistant is to research on the PhD, however I combined the research tasks with some lectures in "Programming" and "Language Processors" subjects.

May 2009 - October 2014

Analyst programmer

Indra Sistemas

I worked in Indra for more than 5 years in the Banking sector. I worked in several projects for national and international clients.

June 2007 - May 2009

Programmer

Centro de Servicios Avanzados

My first job as computer engineer was at CSA, where I worked in the Banking sector mainly as a backend programmer.

Capabilities

Learning and teaching are together.

Language Processors

In this subject the main concepts of Language Processors are taught: such as lexical, syntactical, and semantic analysis, among others. In laboratories, the whole process of a compiler (from lexical analysis to code generation) is put into practice.

Artificial Intelligence

This subject might well be a Master itself, it presents a general view of Artificial Intelligence Probabilistic models, evolutive learning, artificial neural networks, fuzzy logic, among others, are some of the topics that are introduced.

Programming Models for Big Data

In the era of Big Data, new challenges and opportunities emerge for designers and developers around the world. In this subject the main aspects of Big Data are presented, as well as some of the technologies that have grown around it. More specifically, the Apache Spark framework is presented for processing big volumes of information.
